Why perform paternity tests on inmates? child support cases are void?

I'm trying to write a narrative argument about paternity collections on inmates. If they are not making money how can they be persued for child support? Any help or direction will be appreciated. I do not understand why, thru work I have to collect paternity tests on inmates. Why perform paternity tests on inmates? child support cases are void?
i guess it depends on their sentence. if they are going to be let back into the free world, they will have to pay back support. to make it legally binding a paternity test is performed to prove fatherhood. and inmates do make money while in jail, although it isnt much in our eyes (or worth collecting against), they do get paid for certain tasks. i would guess whats in their account at the end of their sentence could be applied toward back child support? Why perform paternity tests on inmates? child support cases are void?
Does your argument have to revolve around inmate paternity and child support? Why not investigate the moral/ethical side of the issue - the right that the child has to know who their father, or in some cases, who their mother is. It also gives them an opportunity for a reasonable medical family history, and a heads up on any other genetic traits that may be in store for them. I think you get my basic idea :)... hope some of it helps you. Good Luck!
